In his new position, he will organize art events and innovate future LifeWear items.

KAWS is officially becoming UNIQLO's first Artist in Residence.
In this new position, the renowned artist will assist UNIQLO in advancing its “Art For All” ideology by organizing art events at shops worldwide and cooperating with the brand’s many institution partners. He is poised to play a crucial role in the development of future LifeWear items, with the inaugural collection anticipated to launch in Fall/Winter 2025.
KAWS conveyed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am exhilarated to embark on this next chapter with my longstanding collaborator UNIQLO as the brand’s inaugural Artist In Residence.” He stated that, in this capacity, he aims to engage with the art community and international creatives to assemble the forthcoming cohort of UNIQLO collaborators. I anticipate collaborating on innovative forms of LifeWear.
In our constantly changing world, art has become increasingly vital as a manifestation of our humanity. KAWS has been transcending conventional limits within the art realm, analogous to Uniqlo's endeavors to transform the fashion sector with LifeWear,” stated John C Jay, President of Global Creative at Fast Retailing. “In his role as Artist In Residence, KAWS will assist Uniqlo in broadening the global recognition and engagement with art and creativity for everyone.”
The Artist in Residence position is an extensive function that will include the introduction of new partners and the proposal of innovative projects. This new cooperation enhances a connection that commenced in 2016, leveraging a history of successful collections.
