Jonathan Anderson Appointed Costume Designer for ChatGPT Biopic 'Artificial'

Jonathan Anderson is creating costumes for Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming film, Artificial, a "AI comedy," representing their third collaboration that examines concerns within Big Tech.

Despite Jonathan Anderson's commitments to managing his label JW Anderson and overseeing Dior, the versatile designer continues to expand his portfolio of costume design credits. Anderson is collaborating once again with Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino for a third project, contributing his fashion expertise to the director's upcoming "AI comedy," Artificial.

This dramedy, loosely inspired by the narrative of OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, who created the AI chatbot ChatGPT, centers on the bizarre issues and disputes that have emerged within Big Tech. The fundamental issue is pertinent, as AI increasingly permeates daily life, accompanied by controversies concerning AI models, such Elon Musk's Grok.

The two prominent creatives have established a collaborative partnership in recent years. In a recent WWD interview, the designer stated, “We share analogous perspectives on similar topics — the concepts of taste and aesthetics — as well as current developments in design, visual arts, and decorative arts.”

Anderson announced his participation on Instagram on Sunday, expressing his enthusiasm at collaborating with the remarkable Luca Guadagnino. The new picture, featuring Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, and Cooper Koch—who appeared in Queer—was previously developed by Guadagnino for his 2024 projects, Challengers and Queer. The designer demonstrated his cinematic expertise last year, receiving a nomination for the Costume Designers Guild Awards for Challengers. ‘Artificial’ is presently in pre-production and has not yet been assigned an official release date.
