Aēsop is poised to launch its newest Eau de Parfum, “Above Us, Steorra,” a scent that presents amber in an unprecedented manner. Developed by long-time partner Céline Barel, the fragrance was inspired by an abstract trio: a poem by Mayuzumi Madoka titled “Shooting Star,” a photograph of the night sky, and the changing colors of petrified resin. Inspired by the starry ceiling of Aēsop’s Collins Street boutique in Melbourne, Barel created a fragrance she characterizes as “Celestial Amber,” which she perceives as both radiant and quietly subversive.

Aēsop characterizes “Above Us, Steorra” as a “new expression of amber,” commencing with vivid notes of bergamot, unrefined cardamom, and piquant elemi, reminiscent of a meteor's blazing path through a frigid expanse. The core reveals opulent, resinous strata of Cypriol Heart, labdanum, and frankincense, subsequently transitioning to a spicier, woodier cardamom nuance. A rum-like vanilla bean undertone revives the amber warmth in the foundation, producing a contemporary interpretation that oscillates between vibrant spice and profound resin.

Aēsop achieves a dynamic and profound amber harmony by reducing sweetness and powders in favor of enhanced woods and resins. Beyond a mere fragrance, “Above Us, Steorra” embodies a scented narrative in the manner of Aēsop – a call to reflect, gaze upward, and ponder, “Shall we place our faith in the uncertain?” The "Above Us, Steorra" Eau de Parfum will be released globally on September 1, accessible for purchase online and at Aēsop boutiques, priced at $200 USD/$1,500 HKD.
