The exceedingly rare platinum variant includes silver dials, diamond markings, and the Calibre 9’90 movement.

Despite not winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Sinners, Michael B. Jordan delivered an eloquent remark on the red carpet at the 83rd Golden Globes. On his wrist gleamed the antique Patek Philippe Ref. 1593 “Hour Glass,” a timepiece that exuded refined elegance. His selection signifies a wider cultural revival in neo-vintage and mid-century design, as collectors progressively abandon contemporary large sport watches in favour of the architectural elegance of the post-war period.

Initially launched in 1944, the Ref. 1593 exemplifies Patek Philippe's artistic vitality. The watch is characterised by its large rectangular case and outward-flaring pillar lugs, forming a distinctive “quarter moon” silhouette. The iteration preferred by aficionados – and highlighted by Jordan – is the exceedingly rare platinum model, generally characterised by a silver dial adorned with diamond-set hour markers and driven by the manual-wind Calibre 9”90 movement. Although yellow gold was the prevailing standard of the era, these platinum specimens are exceptionally rare; specifically, a 1951 model was auctioned at Phillips in 2018 for 81,250 CHF (about $101,992 USD at that time). The "Hour Glass," long discontinued, remains a prized legacy item for horological enthusiasts.
