Valtteri Bottas has always exhibited the understated assurance of a driver who allows his performance to speak for itself.

The Finnish F1 driver, recognised for his intense focus and steadfast composure, established a decade-long Formula 1 career characterised by precision, resilience, and an unyielding work ethic—initially progressing through Williams, subsequently achieving multiple Grand Prix victories and championship runner-up positions while serving as the third driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. In 2026, Bottas will embark on a daring new phase with the newly established, American-supported Cadillac team. We engaged with Bottas at the Las Vegas Grand Prix at Mercedes’ elite Las Vegas Club to discuss his final days with the team and the experience of establishing a new team from the ground up.
What is the experience of influencing a team's identity from its inception?
It is genuinely a unique opportunity to participate in a newly established team from its inception. Participating in that trip from its inception is quite exceptional, and I am highly enthusiastic about it.
What is your strategy for developing that identity?
Diligence is paramount. Undoubtedly, as a brand and a squad, it will appear impressive — it represents an American team and a prominent brand — nevertheless the paramount consideration is performance. Ultimately, we must execute according to plan. A swift and dependable vehicle is the foremost priority, necessitating much effort.
Initiating a new endeavour invariably entails relinquishing a portion of oneself. What do you aspire to contribute to this team?
I have consistently prioritised collaboration. I aspire to unify individuals to foster strength and cohesion within the team. However, above all, I aspire to achieve favourable outcomes. I wish to contribute and achieve optimal performance.
What significance does joining an American team hold for you?
It is excellent — it is remarkable. Americans have significantly embraced Formula One, resulting in a substantial increase in the sport's popularity. American sports are highly engaging to observe, and I am confident that this club will provide a similar experience. It is a highly esteemed brand, and I am enthusiastic about our potential developments.
