Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the neon-soaked revival reimagines the iconic detective universe for a new generation, with a global theatrical release set for August 6, 2027.

Universal Pictures has officially approved Miami Vice ‘85, establishing Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as the franchise's new protagonists. According to Deadline, the much awaited film reboot would reintroduce the iconic investigative combo of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett, delving into the high-stakes glamour and entrenched corruption of mid-1980s Miami.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick and F1, Miami Vice ‘85 purposefully reverts the cherished franchise to its stylistic origins. The script, authored by Dan Gilroy, draws direct inspiration from the 1984 pilot episode and the inaugural season of the iconic television series, with original co-creator Michael Mann serving as an executive producer. In contrast to Mann's contemporary 2006 film adaption, Kosinski's elaborate version functions as a committed period piece. Jordan assumes the renowned character of Tubbs, while Butler adopts the persona of Crockett. The studio plans to commence production this summer, dedicating substantial resources to the visual presentation, with the neon-infused action thriller intended for exclusive filming in IMAX theatres.
