The automotive industry is abuzz with the commencement of testing for the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet, signifying the resurgence of the legendary convertible off-roader following an extended absence. In response to an exceptionally favourable reaction to first teasers, Mercedes has promptly transitioned prototypes to public roads in Austria for comprehensive dynamic assessments.

This latest version of the open-top Geländewagen is poised to disrupt the luxury SUV market. This iteration will be a more practical four-door convertible, equipped with a power-operated retractable soft-top fabric roof, in contrast to the discontinued two-door soft-top model. The design retains the G-Wagen’s distinctive boxy silhouette and robust durability while providing an exciting open-air driving experience.

Mercedes-Benz experts are presently collecting extensive data to verify the structural integrity and manoeuvrability of the open-top chassis. The rigorous testing schedule will escalate once the prototypes are transported to Sweden for extreme winter trials. This cold-weather testing will challenge the vehicle’s components, guaranteeing that the cabriolet maintains the renowned off-road performance and durability characteristic of the G-Class, irrespective of climate conditions. The special edition G-Class Cabriolet is anticipated to make its complete premiere and launch in 2026, if testing progresses satisfactorily.
